It's Not Over
There
were more than 39,000 new HIV diagnoses in 2016 across the U.S. Infection rates dropped 19% between 2005 and
2014. That's good news. But there were
also increases in infection rates: +4% among African American gay and bisexual
men and +14% among Hispanic gay and
bisexual men. There are treatments, but
no vaccine. It's not over.

- The
overall number of people living with HIV is increasing and the impact of HIV on
an aging population is yet to be seen.
- HIV
is a concentrated epidemic in impoverished urban areas. Take a look at the map.

effective treatment with antiretroviral drugs, there is significant discrepancy
in those receiving care, retention in care and viral suppression.
- PrEP
– drugs designed to prevent infection – utilization continues to increase, but
only about 8% of people eligible for PrEP are receiving it.
